About me
Name: Dr. Marco Prato
Title: Associate Professor in Numerical Analysis
Affiliation: Department of Physics, Informatics and Mathematics, University of Modenanad Reggio Emilia, Italy
Bio:
Dr. Marco Prato was born in Varazze, on the Italian Riviera, in 1980. He received the MSc Degree and the PhD Degree in 2003 and 2006, respectively, from the University of Genova. In 2006 he moved to the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, where he became Researcher in Numerical Analysis in 2008 and Associate Professor in 2020. The research fields in which he is involved are the design and analysis of numerical methods for optimization problems. Particular attention is constantly devoted to the minimizazion of objective functions arising in the reformulation of real-world applications, such as the recostruction of medical or astronomical images and the exploitation of machine learning strategies in neuroscience.
He teaches basic numerical analysis and calculus courses in scientific and technological degree courses, and advanced concepts of statistical learning and regularization theory for inverse problems in the MSc Degree in Mathematics.
Something you don't know about me: I practiced hammer throwing for about 15 years, starting when I was 9 years old. Hammer throwing was ranked by some sport magazine as the 2nd most difficult sport discipline after 10mt platform diving.
